Burgundy, school of

Burgundy, school of
   The Flemish court artists under Philip the Bold of Burgundy, c. 1390-c. 1420. The school practiced Flemish realism that was dominant in the Italian schools. From this grew the Gothic style. Among the most noted members were the Van Eyck brothers.
